I love a challenge!

The lovely At Work Gallery in Pimlico, London issued a challenge to jewellers to make a piece of jewellery, which can be worn on the body and also displayed on the wall, using the contents of a parcel of ‘landfill’, which they posted to each participant. My parcel contained lots of keys, from studios and galleries, dating back 27 years- quite a challenge! I decided to make a statement necklace using a selection of these, painted matt black, in combination with split rings from the landfill parcel, oxidised (blackened) copper chain and connections and reclaimed vintage yellow plastic knitting needles. The necklace will be displayed on the wall, hanging from a wood-filled yellow plastic lid (from a Marmite jar). Our finished works will be on show in the gallery from the 13th April to 20th June and I’m really looking forward to seeing what we all made!
